Quilled Paper on Styrofoam Hearts

All you need to make these hearts are styrofoam heart shapes and scrapbook paper. Plan a lot of time making this project, though. About 7 hours were needed to complete both hearts but the results are worth it. For these hearts, scrapbook paper in which one side had a design and one side was white was used instead of quilling paper. The paper has a white edge and gives the hearts an interesting and unique appearance and softens the tone of them.

For this both of these hearts you will need:

- two styrofoam hearts (one heart is about 8 centimeters and the other is 10 centimeters in size)
- 8 complete sheets of scrapbook with red or pink designs on them
- craft glue


- quilling tool


- quilling template

This quilling template is so useful. It lets you prepare 6 same sized circles at once and has different sizes of circles as well. The circles used for this project are 1.2 cm in size. Sometimes once you start gluing, you will have gaps that cannot be avoided. You can also create smaller circles to fill them.

Instructions for one heart:

1. Cut the paper first in half. Now you have two 15 cm lengths. Then cut 5 mm wide strips so that you have strips that measure 5 mm x 15 cm. Use the quilling tool and coil wrap a strip of paper around it. Remove the coiled paper and place it into the quilling template.
2. Now remove each circle from the template and glue the end in place so the circle stays closed. Once you have created numerous circles, you can start gluing these very close to each other onto the heart. It was easiest to just cover a small section of the heart at a time and pressing the coiled circles onto the glue. Continue making and gluing the circles onto the heart until it is full.

To create really small circles, cut the length of your paper in half.

These add an instant touch of romance to your decor.
