Felt Owl Ornaments

These soft cuties take only a little time to make and kids will have fun crafting them. The owls look great as a group so the more, the merrier. By using three different basic colors for the owl’s body, you can create 6 different owls.

For one owl you will need:

- cereal box for creating templates
- pencil for tracing
- scissors
- three colors of thick felt in shades of brown
- yellow felt for the beak
- white and black felt for the eyes
- two bottlecaps for the eyes
- craft glue recommended for felt
- hot glue gun (parents or guardians please provide assistance when children are using the glue gun)

Recommended Ages: 7 and older

Time required: after the templates have been created, about 15-30 minutes depending on child’s tracing, cutting and gluing skills - additional time will be required for the white paint on the eye to dry.

Illustrated Craft Tutorial: How to Make Patterns and Permanent Templates Print out the pattern so that the height of the owl body measures 13 centimeters (about 5.1 inches). That way the proportions will fit well with the size of the bottle caps.

Tracing and Cutting

Once you have created your permanent templates with the cereal box, trace the shapes onto the appropriate colored pieces of felt and cut out.

Assembling the Owl

1. First glue the wings onto the body. Glue them so that the shape of the wing follows the owl body shape.

2. Glue the white felt circles inside the bottle caps.

3. Then glue the black felt circles in the middle of the bottle caps. Add a dot of dimensional paint to them to add a highlight to each eye.

4. Then use the hot glue gun to glue the eyes onto the body.

5. Then glue the beak on below the eyes.
