Hay Kite Decoration

This friendly kite cannot fly but sure looks great hanging in the fall. With just some cardboard, hay and embellishments, kids can craft this on a cozy autumn afternoon.

Hay Kite

For this project you will need:

- side of a cardboard box
- hay
- red paper ribbon for making the bows
- large wiggle eyes
- cord to form a mouth
- red wooden half bead
- twine
- strong craft glue or hot glue (parental assistance is recommended)

Recommended Ages: 9 and older

Time required: about 30-45 minutes

Instructions:

The hay can get messy. A good idea is to cut a box down so that the four side walls measure about 30 cm or 12 inches high. Then to make the kite within this box. Then the hay can collect within the box and prevents it getting all over the place.

1. Cut the cardboard into a large kite shape. Follow the instructions in the tutorial below to make the basic kite.
2. Glue on the eyes, nose and mouth with either hot glue or strong craft glue and let dry.
3. Tie 8 bows using the paper ribbon. Glue 3 on the kite itself.
4. Tie a piece of twine to the bottom of the kite and tie the remaining bows to the twine.
5. Tie a piece of twine at the top of the kite for hanging.
