Pine Cone Ornaments

Every year our pine tree in the yard throws many hundreds of small cones down, so we collect some of them (not all of them so that the wild animals can have their share of them, too) and keep them in a large bucket and wait to come up with ideas how to use them. One year we made these Pine Cone Wreaths and another year we made this Pine Cone Wreath. For this idea, red and white twisted paper twine was used to embellish the pine cones and a jingle bell was added for extra festivity.

For this project you will need:

- small pine cones
- snow paint / textured snow (follow this tutorial for Textured Snow Recipe if you would like to make this on your own)
- flat paint brush
- red and white twisted paper twine
- small jingle bell that has a hook or an opening at the top so you are able to insert the end of the twine through it
- hot glue gun

Instructions for one pine cone:

1. First paint outer areas of the pine cone with the snow paint mixture and let it dry.
2. Cut a 10-15 cm piece of the twine and glue the two ends onto the bottom center of the pine cone (the pine cone will hang up-side down so that the bottom is up)
3. Now cut a longer piece of twine. Insert the jingle bell and pull it to the middle of the twine. Create a bow and glue the bow now to the pine cone to cover the ends of the hanging loop. Trim the ends of the bow.

These look so pretty hanging on the tree.
