Advent or Christmas Centerpieces

Give your tables a festive look within minutes with a floral centerpiece and candles. This project is meant for those who do not have the time to create time-consuming arrangements, yet want to add a festive touch to their tables. It was fortunate to find this cast iron advent wreath bowl with four candle holders at a Christmas market. It makes a great base for creating this particular decoration. You can vary this bowl each year, depending on your decorating needs. The one particular year, this bowl was made using fresh greenery, orange slices and pine cones. Another year, potpourri was used to give the centerpiece a wonderful Christmas scent.

Christmas Centerpiece with Red Candles and Decorations

Supplies needed for red centerpiece:

- purchased cast iron advent bowl or metal plate
- fresh greenery
- candles
- pine cones
- orange slices
- red frosted berries (artificial)

Supplies needed for the natural centerpiece:

- purchased cast iron advent bowl or metal plate
- candles
- various natural items such as pinecones, dried apple slices, dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks, chestnuts, walnuts, anise
stars and other natural items that would look decorative

Instructions:

1.First add the candles to the holders if you are using an advent bowl. Otherwise, if using a plate, place 1 candle in the center of the plate.
2. Add the greenery first for each of the centerpieces. Arrange it in a pleasing way. For the red centerpiece the greenery fills the bowl and on a plate, you would arrange the greenery around the center candle. Make sure it looks even around the base.
3. Add now the decorations. Feel free to experiment. For the natural centerpiece, it looks decorative if you lay a cinnamon stick over an orange slice and wrap gold wire around it a few times to hold them together. Make a couple of these for your decoration.
4. Once you are satisfied with the arrangement, add the gold angels hair to give the centerpieces a finished touch.

We received this tip from one of our crafty readers for drying orange or apple slices. “If you have a gas stove with a pilot light, you can leave your items in the oven to dry. This method is a little faster than the radiator method but not as fast as the microwave.”
