Patriotic Bead and Straw Necklace

The little bear is happily showing her patriotic pride by wearing a special necklace made for the occasion.

For this project you will need:

- wooden 1 cm size beads, about 10 each in the colors of red, white and blue
- straws in the same colors, about 10 each, cut into approximately 1.5 cm lengths (these straws are clear straws with either
  red, white or blue stripes)
- scissors
- nylon or perlon thread for beading approximately 70 centimeters in length

Recommended for ages 6 and up

Instructions:

1. First, cut a 70 centimeter length of thread. That will create a long necklace that will easily fit over the child’s head.
2. Hold one end of the thread and bead the beads and straw pieces alternatively by type and color onto the the other end of the thread. When finished, there should be about 10 centimeters length left over.
3. Knot the ends together to close off the necklace.
