Melting Beads Lighthouse
This is a fun and easy maritime project to keep young hands busy during the summer.
For this project you will need:
- melting beads peg board with at least 30 x 30 pegs - melting beads in the colors of grey, dark yellow, blue and white - iron and baking paper (parents or supervisors should do the ironing to avoid accidents or burns)
Instructions:
1. Follow the pattern and place the beads on the peg board to create the lighthouse. 2. When finished, place a sheet of baking paper over the lighthouse (this will protect the beads from sticking to the iron while ironing) and iron over the lighthouse back and forth for a few seconds at the hottest temperature until the beads fuse together. Let it cool down for a couple of minutes. Before removing the lighthouse from the peg board, make sure that all pieces are sticking together. 3. Now remove the lighthouse from the board and place it on the baking paper on the ironing board so that the front side you just ironed is now facing down. Cover the back side also with baking paper and then iron the lighthouse again to fuse it on the backside. This will make it more durable. Remove the figure then from the paper once it is slightly cooled down and place it on the working table under a few books to weigh it down until it is completely cool. This helps the lighthouse to remain flat. 4. You can now hang a string at the top bead to hang in the window or use a melting bead stand piece if you wish to display it on a shelf or so.

You can purchase separate pieces so that the figures can stand on their own.
