Autumn Shingle With an Antique Look

These make cute decorations for small spaces and can also be hung on the wall. Crackle medium is fun to work with and adds an interesting touch to the item.

For one shingle you will need:

- poured ceramic form or a similar form out of wood or another material
- brown and beige acrylic paint
- crackle medium
- paper napkin with autumn motifs such as the one above (the best is a motif that will cover about 2/3 of the shingle
- paper napkin applique glue or decoupage glue
- flat, soft paint brushes

Instructions:

1. First you will base coat the entire shingle with brown acrylic paint and set it aside to dry before continuing.
2. Once your shingle is dry, paint it with a coat of cracking medium and let it dry overnight.
3. Now take your paint brush and dip it into the beige paint. Stroke in one direction over the cracking medium. Immediately you will notice the paint starting to crack. Do not stroke the paint over the same place twice or the effect will be ruined. Continue until the entire area is covered. Put aside to dry.
4. Once the paint is dry, you can continue with the decoupage techinque. Remove all but the top layer of the tissue or napkin and follow the tutorial here to apply the napkin to the pot. Let the glue dry before using.
