Adding the Lining, Loop and Handles
17. Now it is time to finish the bag. You still have two top lining panels to sew. First sew the short edges together. Then iron one long edge up 1 cm.
18. Pin this lining to the top of the bag with the right sides facing each other and aligning the side seams.
19. Cut a 10-15 centimeter piece of cording. Fold it into a loop and insert the loop on one top side between the bag layers. Pin in place.
20. Then pin the straps 4 cm from each edge of the top of the bag. The ends are aligned to the top of the bag and the loops are hanging down between the bag and lining layer. First do one side of the bag, then the other side of the bag.
21. Now sew across the top of the bag. This will also hold everything in place.
22. Pull the lining up.
23. Tuck it inside the bag.
24. Iron the lining flat...
25. ...and top stitch across the top of the bag, using a small seam allowance.
26. Turn the bag inside out again and tuck the lining now inside the bag. It is recommended to sew the bottom of the lining to the bag to hold it down if you like.
For this bag it was done with the machine, but if you do not want any stitching line to be seen, you can use invisible hand stitches to hold it down on the inside of the bag.
