Illustrated Craft Tutorial - Scandinavian Inspired Paper Houses

Create 1... several... or even 24... to make yourself an Advent calendar village.

Paper House Tutorial 1

1. The image shows you the pieces you will need for each house. You will need: 1 house, 1 roof, 2 gables, 4 window panes and 4 vellum window liners each measuring 4 x 5 cm (if the house gets printed out at the recommended size). If your house is a different size, simply cut the 4 vellum pieces the same size as the window pane template.

Paper House Tutorial 2

2. Fold the roof in half and use the bone folder to make a good crease in it.

Paper House Tutorial 3

3. Crease the flaps on each of the gable pieces and fold up.

Paper House Tutorial 4

4. So that they look like this.

Paper House Tutorial 5

5. Measure 1 centimeter on each underside of the long sides of the roof. This will help indicate where the gable flaps get glued on.

Paper House Tutorial 6

6. Place stick glue on the flaps. The triangle gable is then placed on the line and the flaps will be glued towards the inside of the roof. The top point is exactly at the top point of the roof, 1 centimeter from the outer edge.

From the outside, the roof looks like this image.

Paper House Tutorial 7

7. Cut out the windows of the house and then place glue all around each window on the backside (inside) of the house.

Paper House Tutorial 8

8. Adhere a piece of vellum to the glue and press to secure.

Paper House Tutorial 9

9. Then glue the window panes to the front side (outside of the house).

Paper House Tutorial 10

10. Use the bone folder or a stylus and then crease a line across the bottom of the house where the flaps are. This line is approximately 1.5 centimeters from the bottom edge. It is indicated by the dotted line of the template..

Paper House Tutorial 11

11. Between each wall, a line also will be creased down the house. These lines are also indicated on the template.

Paper House Tutorial 12

12. Here the last line is being creased on the side flap. It is the outer wall that will close off the house once glued.

Paper House Tutorial 13

13. Fold up all the creased lines.

Paper House Tutorial 14

14. Place a line of glue on each of the two bottom floor sides.

Paper House Tutorial 15

15. Then fold the two sides of the house over and press the flaps onto the glue. Make sure the walls are lined up even with the floor. Use paper clips or clothes pins to hold the walls in place until the glue has dried.

Paper House Tutorial 16

16. Once the glue has dried, apply glue on the open side wall (the side that does not have the flap)...

Paper House Tutorial 17

17. ...and on the floor where the arrows are pointing.

Paper House Tutorial 18

18. Then fold the house closed and use a clothes pin to hold in place until the glue has dried.

Paper House Tutorial 19

19. Now you can place the roof onto the house.

Paper House Tutorial 20

20. The house is now finished.

Paper House Tutorial 21

21. For the Advent calendar, stickers with the numbers 1-24 were used.

Paper House Tutorial 22

22. Punched out stars were used to give them more stability. Each sticker was then adhered to a star.

Paper House Tutorial 23

23. Each star was then adhered to a house using a 3-D pad to make it stand out some.
