Wood Craft for Christmas - Scroll Saw Project - Happy Winter Snowman Door Sign

Greet the visitors to your home this winter with this cute wooden snowman door sign. This project is ideal for novice woodworkers. With only 5 pieces to saw out, the snowman is painted and assembled within a day and is a fun project to craft.

 

 

Christmas Wood Craft - Wooden Snowman Door Decoration for Winter

For this project you will need:

- Plywood or any soft wood, 4 and 10 mm thick
- white, red, dark green, cornflower blue or very light blue, orange and
  black acrylic paint
- sturdy wire for hanging
- drill with 2.5 mm bit
- various flat and round paint brushes
- wood glue

Instructions:

1. Print out the pattern page to fit the size of the paper in your printer and transfer the snowman body on the 10 mm wood and the nose, scarf and snowflake on the 4 mm wood. How to Make Patterns Tutorial
2. Saw the pieces out.
How to use a Scroll Saw Tutorial The sign measures 26cm x 6 cm. Cut it out of 10 mm plywood and give the sides a zig-zag type of look.
3. Paint the pieces accordingly. The hat and scarf are a mixture of red and green and painted wet in wet. That is done by painting the first color and blending in a second color for shading and highlights while the first color is still wet.
4. Drybrush or pounce blue onto the white to give a winter look to the figures.

5. Paint the letters in blue and highlight with white paint.
6. Drill 2 holes in the top of the sign and 2 holes in the bottom of the sign, drill a hole in each snowman hand and also a hole on 3 snowflake sides. Conntect all the pieces with wire.
7. Spray project with clear sealer especially if hanging outdoors.
