How to make templates tutorial
Fusing Fabric tutorial
1. Cut out a white rectangle to a size of your choice. 2. Cut out a red rectangle (flag) that has a width smaller than the width of your block. Iron fusible web on the backside of this piece. 3. Cut out a small blue rectangle for the top left corner of your “flag”. Iron fusible web on the backside of this piece. 4. Measure the red rectangle and cut out a rectangle the same size out of your cream colored fabric. Iron fusible web on the backside of this piece. Now cut zig-zag strips of equal width out of this piece and put aside for the moment. 5. Fuse the red block now on the white block. 6. Fuse cut zig zag pieces now on the red flag at equal widths. (You only require half of the zig-zag strips for this). 7. Now fuse the blue rectangle at the top left corner of the flag. 8. For the hearts, cut 2 square shapes out of the fusible web larger than the heart shape you will use. Fuse a piece of cream colored fabric on each square. Trace your heart template on the paper side of these pieces and cut the shapes out. Now you have two cream colored hearts. Leave the paper backing on these hearts for the moment. 9. Cut 2 strips each of red with stars and blue with dots fabric and iron fusible web on the backside of these strips. Now fuse these strips on both sides of the hearts so that the heart has now 3 colored stripes. Trim excess fabric away around the heart shape. 10. Remove the paper backing from the hearts and fuse these now on the patchwork block. 11. Trace stars onto fusible web and fuse onto your choice of fabrics. Cut the stars out, remove paper backing and iron these on the patchwork block. 12. Hand stitch around the shapes to give the block a country look. 13. Measure the long sides of the finished block and cut 2 strips of red fabric the width of choice. Sew these along the 2 long sides of the block. 14. Measure the 2 short sides of the block and cut also 2 strips this length and the same width strips as in step 13. Sew these now on the block. Iron the project flat. 15. Sew the star buttons on the blue rectangle. 16. Use the block as desired for your sewing project.
