For this project you will need:

- Canvas boards size 13 cm x 18 cm (or 5 x 7
  inches)
- paper napkins or tissues with martime motifs
- light colored acrylic paint that matches
the background color of your motifs
- dark colored acrylic paint in a matching
  contrast color
- cracking medium
- soft wide paintbrushes
- modge podge or paper napkin applique glue

Instructions:

1. First you will base coat your canvas in the dark contrast color. Here navy ocker yellow (light brown) was chosen.
2. Once your canvas is dry, paint it with a coat of cracking medium.
3. Here comes the fun part! Once the cracking medium is dry, take your wide soft paint brush and dip it into the yellow paint. Stroke in one direction over the cracking medium. Immediately you will notice the paint starting to crack. Do not stroke the paint over the same place twice or the effect will be ruined. Continue until the canvas is covered. Put aside to dry.
4. Once the paint is dry, you can continue with the decoupage techinque. Tear the paper napkin edges so that they are soft and natural. A straight line does not look well. Remove all but the top layer of the tissue or napkin and follow the tutorial
here to apply the napkin to the canvas
Paper Napkin Applique or Decoupage Technique to continue adding your motif.
