Girl's Craft - Hip Tote Bag Using Stretchy Corrugated Cardboard 75

Paper Tote Bag Project

If you are unable to purchase stretchy corrugated cardboard, you could try to make this project using thick felt.

Paper Tote Bag 1

1. The first thing you want to do is have your corrugated cardboard laying flat in front of you. This is how it looks before it is cut.

2. Now you need to cut 2 pieces out in the same direction. The first piece measures 21 cm (8.2 inches)  high and 12 cm (4.7 inches) wide. The second piece measures 15 cm (5.9 inches) high and 12 cm (4.7 inches) wide.

3. Now lay the smaller piece exactly over the first piece as you see in the picture below.

4. Take a needle and punch a hole along all sides and through both layers when necessary. The holes should be about 5 mm (1/4 inch) from the sides and about 1 cm apart (0.4 inches).

5. Thread your needle with embroidery floss and knot one end. Start in the inside of the flap and whip stitch along the edges where the holes are punched. Continue doing this until all the holes have been stitched. Knot the second end to secure and clip the excess thread away.

6. Fold the flap over. Punch a hole on each side of the flap at the top. Secure an eyelet in each hole. Attach the fuzzy ribbon or cording and knot on the inside of the bag so the knot cannot be seen on the outside.

7. On the inside of the flap attach a self sticking velcro piece to it and to the front of the tote under the flap just opposite of where the other velcro piece is.
