Part Two: Creating Fabric Motifs to Use as Embellishments for Cards, Scrapbooks, Paper Crafts, etc...
For all seasons of the year, you can find fabric with all sorts of motifs to almost any subject. It is a lot of fun using these motifs for crafting projects. These tutorials will show you how to prepare these motifs so they can be easily used.
Creating Fabric Motifs as Embellishments With Fabric and Aslan Foil: This is such a quick and easy way to use fabric for embellishments. A wonderful advantage of this technique is that the fabric motif will not fray.
1. The white Aslan foil, like the image above, is sold on a roll that is 60 cm wide at craft shops. It is a one-sided adhesive sheet that is of a very stable quality (0.25 mm thick). There are also other qualities of Aslan foil and also some that are double-sided adhesive. But this particular type is the best choice for creating fabric motifs. It is sold in Europe (and maybe elsewhere) but most likely you can also get a similar product where you live from another company.
2. To create your fabric motifs using the Aslan foil and fabrics, you need to first select the fabric you wish to use. Cut around the motif, without exactly cutting it out. You will be doing that later.
3. Cut out a piece of the Aslan foil that is slightly larger than the fabric motif and then peel-away the protective paper. Place the fabric motif on the stick side of the foil.
4. Now you can cut the fabric motif exactly out.
5. To create a 3-D effect with the motif, you can place 3-D foam pads on the backside of the motif.
6. When you want to use the motif, just peel away the protective paper of the 3-D pads and adhere the motif to your project.

Creating Fabric Motifs as Embellishments Using Fabric and Fusible Web: Fusible web can be purchased in sewing and fabric stores and also at some craft stores. It is an iron-on adhesive for fabric which enables you to create fabric motifs to embellish cards, scrapbooks, etc... The motifs can also be used to create appliques to embellish other fabrics as well.
In this particular tutorial, the motif gets directly fused onto the surface such as a card or scrapbook.
1. Choose a fabric you would like to use for your project. Here cheerful spring flowers will be used.
2. Cut a motif out in a square or rectangle shape and also cut a piece of fusible web out that is approximately the same size.
3. Then you will need also baking paper or parchment paper. This will protect the iron from touching the glue side of the fusible web.
4. Place the baking paper on your ironing board. Then place the piece of fusible web with the glue side facing up on top of the paper.
5. Place then your fabric motif with the pretty side up on top of the fusible web.
6. Place baking paper over the motifs and then iron over the paper with a medium to high level of heat and using no steam.
7. Remove the baking paper and let your motif cool down.
8. Once cool, you can cut it exactly out.
9. Remove the paper backing from the motif.
10. Now you can iron the motif directly on the card or scrapbook page using medium heat and no steam. Be careful not to iron too long so the paper does not get damaged. If you wish, you can also place baking paper between the iron and the paper for more protection.
11. This is the finished result.
Tip:
You are not limited to fabrics. Even though there are many good glues available, fusible web can also be used on the backside of paper napkins, wrapping paper, magazine pages and other ironable materials. The advantage of using fusible web is that there is no glue mess and no wrinkles when adhering your motif to the card or scrapbook page.

Creating 3-D Fabric Motifs as Embellishments Using Fabric and Fusible Web: Fabric motifs can be adhered as 3-D embellishments to cards and scrapbooks.
The tutorial is similar to the one just above this one but goes a step further.
1. Cut out your selected motif in a square or rectangle shape and also cut out a piece of fusible web about the same shape and size.
2. Place your baking paper on the ironing board. Place the fusible web with the glue side up on the paper. Then place the motif with the wrong side down on top of the fusible web.
3. Place the baking paper over the motifs and iron them on medium to high heat. Do not use the steam function of your iron. This only takes a couple of seconds for the fabric to bond with the fusible web.
4. Remove the baking paper and wait for the motif to cool down.
5. Then you can remove the paper backing of the fusible web. Now you have a thin layer of glue on the backside of your fabric.
6. Place the fabric onto a piece of cardstock or other stable underground.
7. Iron the fabric onto it.
8. Now cut the motif exactly out.
9. The backside of the motif is the card.
10. You can now add a piece of 3-D foam tape or pads to the backside.
11. When you are ready to use the motif, remove the paper backing from the 3-D pad and adhere your motif where you would like to have it.
Tip:
You are not limited to fabrics when creating 3-D motifs. Fusible web can also be used on the backside of paper napkins, wrapping paper, magazine pages and other ironable materials.
