Recycling Craft Project - Fabric Covered Box

Before throwing away any boxes, decide it they cannot be used for another purpose. Fabric covered boxes are decorative and can be used to keep personal items nicely organized in the closet or shelf or even as a gift box for someone else. Book binding glue is ideal to use when covering boxes with fabric. It is very thick and holds the fabric to the underground excellent.

Recycling Craft - Fabric Covered Box

For this project you will need:

- any box you wish to decorate
- book binding glue
- brush to apply glue
- scissors for cutting fabric
- iron

Instructions:

Important: When applying the glue, make sure to use a thin coat so it will not seep through the fabric. Work only one section at a time as the glue is very thick and also dries quickly.

1. Iron your fabric. Measure the box you wish to cover and cut the fabric to the appropriate sizes. This particular box was a candy box and had 3 sides to cover, which made it easy because there was no overlapping. A piece was cut for the lid, a strip was cut for the side of the lid and a piece was cut to cover the bottom of the box. Other boxes may require some overlapping so cut the fabric depending on the type of box you have.
2. For this type of box, apply glue evenly and thinly to the lid and press the lid onto the fabric, making sure to press away any wrinkles. Then repeat for the side and then the bottom.
3. If you wish, dip you finger a little in the glue and rub it along the top and bottom edges of the box to keep the fabric ends from fraying.

Material for this particular box was bought at Ikea in Germany.
