Valentine’s Day Crafts - Wood Crafts - Wooden Hearts Utility Boxes

If you like the look of wood but do not have the necessary supplies or equipment to saw pieces out, that does not have to be a problem. A good craft store has a large selection of unfinished wooden items. You can create so much just by painting and putting pieces together. This is an example of what can be done with plain utility boxes and wooden hearts. It makes a lovely gift for someone special.

Wood Crafts for Spring - Wooden Boxes with Hearts

For this project you will need:

- wooden box of any shape
- thick carved wooden hearts (enough to cover the top of the box)
- acrylic paints in the colors of red, orange and purple
- paint brushes
- acrylic sealer

Instructions:

1. Base coat the box with red or orange. The second picture shows how both colors look.
2. Paint each box again with the same color but this time add a second color to the first color while still wet and mixing the colors directly on the box. The box looks like it has thin stripes.
3. Paint the hearts first a matching solid color and also while wet add the other 2 colors to give them a dimensional look.
4. Let all of the pieces thoroughly dry before continuing.
5. Arrange the hearts on the box as you wish and use wood glue to glue each heart onto the box.
