Christmas Crafts - Paper Crafts - Advent Calender 2

In Germany, children have advent calenders in December to help count the days until Christmas. It is always exciting for them to get up each morning and see what hidden “treasure” is waiting for them for that particular day. The “treasures” can vary. You can fill the calenders with pieces of candy or chocolate, with small toys, with coins or other small things they like to collect. This is a fun and easy advent calender you can make for the kids and at the same time it is a Christmas decoration for the shelf or window sill. The filling of the calenders get put into the clay pots and the trees cover these pots. You do not have to glue the trees to the pots. They hold on their own. After Christmas you can use the pots for other crafts.

Supplies needed:

- 24 mini-clay pots
- green and white construction paper
- white typing paper
- paper puncher with snowflake motifs (this
one is from Fiskars 3-1 Corner-Punch)
- large snowflake puncher
- 24 toothpicks
- craft glue
- scissors
- pencil
- 2 sizes of cans or bowls to trace around

Paper Crafts for Christmas - Advents Calendar with Clay Pot Trees

Instructions:

1. Trace 6 circles out of the green construction paper using the larger bowl. Cut each circle into quarters. You will then have 24 cone shaped triangles.
2. Trace 6 circles out of the white construction paper using the smaller round object. Also cut each circle into quarters. At the bottom edge of the white quarters, cut a wavy design if desired to give it a snow look.
3. Take a quarter piece and over lap the straight side over the other straight side about 1 cm in. Glue this into place. You will then have a cone shape. You may have to use paper clips to hold it in place until the glue dries.
4. Repeat this with all of the other 47 pieces.
5. Punch small snowflakes out and glue them onto the green tree part.
6. Punch 24 large snowflakes out. Write the numbers 1-24 on each snowflake and glue each one onto a toothpick.
7. Glue the white snow cones onto the green cones. Also use paperclips to hold in place if the pieces do not want to hold while the glue is still wet.
8. At the top of each finished cone is usuall a small hole. Insert the other end of the toothpicks into these holes so that the snowflake is on top of the tree.
9. Fill the pots with the desired treats and place a tree over each pot.
10. If you would like, make smaller and larger trees to go along with these. Arrange the pots to look like a small forest.
