The time in December until Christmas seems so long for children! To help the waiting time seem a little shorter, you can make them an advent calender. The calender is sort of a countdown to Christmas. Each day, when the child gets up, the corresponding pouch for that day gets opened and there is a little something in the pouch for the child to sweeten the day.
There are many types of advent calenders and this particular type of calender is quick and very inexpensive to make. Below is an example of how we decorated our pouches. When you have finished making the pouches, you can put them into a decorative Christmas basket or maybe hang them on a garland or on a wreath. They are a decoration in themselves. You can fill them with candy or very small inexpensive gifts. Or even have a little note in each pouch with a promise of a fun activity you and your child will do together during the holiday season.
