Christmas Craft Projects - Advent Wreath
In Germany, most homes have an advent wreath on their tables in December. On these wreaths are 4 candles to represent the 4 Sundays before Christmas. On the 4th Sunday before Christmas, the first candle gets lit. And each Sunday afterwards, another candle gets also lit. Therefore, on the last Sunday before Christmas, all 4 candles are burning.  Normally the families sit with their children around the table and sing Christmas songs and enjoy the time together. It is also a time for meditating, a time for remembering, a time for praying and a time for peace. It is a wonderful tradition. One sees the advent wreaths not only in the homes, but in churches and often in other public buildings and offices. Decorate the wreath with ribbon, nuts, cinnamon sticks, dried apple and orange slices, pine cones and other natural items. It looks more traditional when the look is kept natural.

For this project you will need:

- Any size of straw wreath
- four candles in your choice of color
- florist wire
- cinnamon sticks
- dried orange or apple slices
- nuts
- pinecones
- ribbon

Instructions:

This wreath is made using the technique below. Once the greenery is on the wreath, take 4 thicker pieces of wire measuring about 6 inches and make one end hot on each piece. The hot end gets inserted into the bottom of a thick candle. Make 3 more pieces into this candle. The other ends get then stuck into the wreath. If it comes out through the back, bend the end so that it lies flat on the wreath. Otherwise it could scratch your table. Continue these steps also with the other candles. They will stand proper on the wreaths without the danger of falling over.
